Protest in Istanbul on May 1 on a section of the highway north of the city, the authorities having forbidden any protest in the city center. The procession of 50,000 included at least 15,000 Kurds under the banner of Dehap, the Kurdish party. Over 10,000 policemen were mobilized. For many years, Kurds take every opportunity to manifest their identity, their opposition to the Turkish state, and their support for Abdullah Calan, leader of the PKK, and imprisoned since 1998. Women now lead the procession, showing overflowing enthusiasm. Some do not hesitate to attend against their husbands’ wishes. On this day, they represent about a quarter of Dehap’s procession.

Manifestation du 1er mai à Istanbul sur un tronçon d'autoroute, au nord de la ville, les autorités ayant interdit toute manifestation dans le centre. Le cortège comptait environ 50 000 personnes dont au moins 15 000 Kurdes, rassemblés sous la bannière de Dehap, le parti kurde. Plus de 10 000 policiers étaient mobilisés.
Depuis de nombreuses années, les Kurdes profitent de chaque occasion pour manifester leur identité, leur opposition à l'Etat turc et leur soutien à Abdullah Acalan, leader du PKK, emprisonné depuis 1998.
Dans ces manifestations, les femmes occupent désormais les premiers rangs des cortèges, faisant preuve d'un enthousiasme débordant. Certaines n'hésitent pas à venir contre l'avis de leur mari. Ce jour-là, elles représentaient environ un quart du cortège de Dehap.
