Syria: Shouting Valley

Now that the US is nearly through with 'regime change' in Iraq, Syria could be the next on queue for gunboat diplomacy. Washington has an agenda of change for the Middle East which goes wider. It wants to encourage a "democratic domino" effect, starting with Iraq. US Secretary of State Colin Powell has said he expects to visit Syria very soon. Mr Powell said his trip would also seek to push forward peace-making efforts between Israel and the Palestinians. Syria says that it remains open to a settlement with Israel but only if it gets the whole of the Golan Heights back,
