A Day in the Life of La Grande Borne 16 / 24

FRANCE · JULY 2002

At Sandrine's : Sandrine has always lived at La Grande Borne. Her parents arrived in 1969 when the building of the complexes was not over yet. There were still fields of sugar beets, and wooden platforms allowed people to walk between the buildings. Today Francine works in one of the neighbourhood's associations. Sitting by a gold coloured statue near the television set, she complains about the problems of bad sound isolation. When the neighbour upstairs gets too noisy while doing repair works, she taps on the tubes of the heating system. Although Francine feels happy at the Grande Borne, she notices that the atmosphere has worsened. "Before we used to go out and leave doors open, not anymore. As a matter of fact, many people have been moving out to live or build elsewhere".
